Comic Round Up for 7/23/14

Disappointed by the lack of comic’s at comic con?  Well I got your fix right here.  We got cowboys, we got giant monsters, we even have yet another spider woman, not mention writers who seem to have trouble telling the differences between a secret and a sin.  I’ll take this time to mention if any of you crazy people who actually read this blog want to pick up any of these titles we are going to review today you can find them all at comixology.com or at your local comic book shop for those of you who prefer hard copies of your comics.

Superman #33
4/5
Superman does some investigative work to find out who this newcomer really is.  I’m cautiously optimistic about this new run of superman.  The writing has certainly improved dramatically since Geoff Johns came abroad, and he seems to be moving superman back towards the more familiar roots we all love him for. But, it’s still new 52 so there’s always the potential to just completely screw up the run.

All Star Western #33
5/5
Hex and Tallulah re-capture black and use the reward money to help a sick town.  From start to finish All Star Western has been the single best book to come out of the new 52.   If you enjoy the ‘shoot first, ask questions later ‘kind of cowboys and western adventures this book is a must read.  However, with tag line like “the Death of Jonah Hex” leads me to believe this series may be winding down to its final rodeo.

Aquaman #33
2/5
A creature called chimera attacks aqua man.  Meh, the villain looks kind of cool but the story is just dull and uninteresting.  The entire book is pretty much focused on this newcomer but sadly is personality as of right now is not nearly as interesting as his physical appearance. I’m also not even really sure how Aqua man started fighting this thing, he just kind of did.

Wonder Woman #33
3/5
The first born attempts to convince wonder woman to become is bride while his forces destroy Themyscira.  So Yay for female independence and original storytelling, that was sarcastic by the way.  I mean of all the plots you could do you go with the “be my bride!” line? This kind of   Mustache twirling comic villainy might be fine for other types of story but in a Wonder Woman comic this feels petty and cliché. Especially since WW is the most iconic female superhero ever she should have better villains.  Of course the First Born is kind of a weakly motivated character to begin with, basically hating everyone because, well, he does. The story is average but not necessarily good, hoping the new writing team will make the book more interesting.

Red lanterns #33
4/5
Guy tries to convince John Stewart to bring in some Green Lanterns to help fight Atrocitus meanwhile Atrocitus is making new lanterns. As a whole nothing jaw dropping happens in this issue, except for the last panel showing all the new Red Lantern rings, but there were a lot of nice moments between John and Guy that furthers my love of seeing all the human lanterns interact with each other. So let’s get Kyle out of that stupid white lantern suit and back into green and when guy finally gives up the out red the whole corps will be back together.

The Flash #33
3/5
The flash is continuing his hunt of the killer Mashup while the future flash try's to set the trickster straight. Well this issue was a tad more exciting than most of the flash issues but I would much rather be reading flash doing is superhero thing rather than spending way to many panels with is his girlfriend *not Iris and watching “future” flash go on and on about how much he screwed everything up and how he need to become a darker hero to fix his mistakes.

All new invaders #08
3/4
Jim and Namor team up with Bucky to break into a weapons facility and rescue and old friend.  The killer robots and army of Deathloks have me intrigued, but the pointless chatter and constant flashbacks are rather irritating. This book is teetering very close to my pull list but that shot of all the Deathloks is cool enough for me to give it another chance, unless of course I start the next issue and it has Jim Hammond/Human Torch giving yet another mission briefing to agent Coulson about the epic fight you didn't see.

Original sins #04
1/5
Collections include Dr. Doom, Young Avengers, and Captain America.  The doom strip was kind of fun but utterly pointless and unnecessary.  Everything else is the same it’s been since the first issue.

Mighty Avengers #12
3/5
Luke Cage’s father continues to tell the story of his original Mighty Avengers.  Another comic that gives off a big Meh, the story is interesting but only to a degree.  There’s a little too much narration and I almost feel that this original Mighty avengers would have been a more interesting story all on its own rather than a limited flash back story. I did like seeing Luke forgive his father so easily for pushing him away and really added points for the character in my book.

Original Sin: Thor & Loki #02
4/5
Thor and Loki enter into the 10th realm but are greeted by a rather unfriendly welcome.   The book is still really good it’s just lacking something, probably a more consistent art style.  I like seeing older Loki manipulate Angela into fighting Thor, it’s good to know that I can have both my hero Loki and my Villain Loki at the same time as I really enjoy both versions of the character.

Daredevil #06
1/5
Daredevil finds out his dad wasn't the person he thought he was and tracks down his mother to get answers.  Wow, this whole issue just basically ended up showing what a loser daredevil has become. I mean he spends the beginning of the issue kind of moping about his deadbeat dad. He then tries to help his mom after she was arrested for spray painting the side of a military complex because she’s a political activist nun, yes you read that right.  But when he decides to use his Daredevil persona to find out more information he just ends up getting beat up by some random Wakandaian politician.  This is certainly not one of Daredevils finer moments.

Deadpool #32
2/5
Deadpool rescues his daughter and starts to fight back against his pursuers.   In all honesty I feel like the Deadpool comics could do with a more focused plot and smartly written characters. This issue feels like it’s trying to be in several places at once and none of them are all that interesting. The worst part is that Deadpool himself only feels like walking trope instead of a fully fleshed character. It’s as if the writers believe as long as Deadpool quips and occasionally breaks the fourth wall then the comic is perfect and no need to do any real storytelling.  It boils down to if you just want Deadpool then you will probably still enjoy this comic but if you want something with a little more structure and craft I would just skip.

Amazing Spiderman #04
3/5
Spiderman discovers that there is another person that was bit by the same radioactive spider.    The story is rather average but the highlight was when the beyonder is talking to madam web and says, “That boy is last hope.” And madam web responds by saying “No… there is another …..skywalke….err Parker.”    Ok so that didn't actually happen, but it should have because that’s basically what this new spider girl is summing up.  It’s a pointless and honestly silly cliche of a gimmick and I really just kind of roll my eyes at it. I also don’t like how much more powerful she is then peter, if she was bitten by the same spider then it just doesn't make any sense she would be better than him especially since she lacks his experience.  But I will say if she ends up being his sister or Norman Osborn comes into the scene and says “No, I am your father.”  I am going to crack up so bad that I’ll end up in cardiac arrest.

Wolverine and the X-Men #06
2/5
Quentin Quire and the rest of the school do battle with his evil future counterpart.  This really wasn't that exciting of a conclusion, especially since I can barely remember what happened in the last issue.  This was just typical X-Men exposition about fate and destiny, blah blah blah that in the end means absolutely nothing because the x-men always manage to defy fate or destiny. I will admit though seeing Doop with interrogation scissors was pretty funny.

Storm #01
3/5
Storm helps a small African village from a tidal wave but is quickly run out by anti-mutant military.   This really wasn't a simple three quality as the exploration of storms character is rather well done in comparison to every other X title out there that just kind of make her a stern faced leader who just lectures everyone while ignoring her own shortcomings, but it did not make it all the way to a four as the story is pretty average and every character that’s not storm is hardly a character at all but more a group of plot devices all conveniently huddled together. So I find this first issue straddling the middle between average and slightly above average.  On another thought, I thought kids went voluntarily with the X-Men this little brat in the issue talks like they kidnapped her.

Transformers vs. G.I. Joe #01
3/5
GI Joe attempt to make first contact with Cybertron but things don’t go according to plan.  This is pretty simple; if you like the original G.I.Joe and transformers cartoons then you’ll have some fun with this comic. If you’re looking for upgraded more “serious” versions of your favorite cartoon characters that are involved in rich dynamic plots of stellar storytelling then you might want to just leave this one alone.  The entire premise is basically an episode right out of the 80’s TV series so if that appeals to you might want to give this a gander.

Godzilla Rulers of the Earth#14
4/5
Anguirus battles Showa Mecha Godzilla while Godzilla himself returns after being buried at the center of the earth.  If you don’t like Godzilla or have only a small passing interest then I’ll save you the trouble and tell you skip this comic.  This book is really only for G-fans with lots of monsters and references to previous films. It cashes all its chips on the fans and leaves only a small amount for actual storytelling talent.  But as a fan this is a lot of fun and even if the stories are rather simple they are still very entertaining.  If you’re interested in a Godzilla comic with a stronger writing staff I would Highly recommend the Dark Horse Godzilla run but if you’re looking for just a good time full monster action this one is still a fun pick up.

I tried, I really did, but fanboyism won out and considering Comic Con announced Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah for future movies I think the King deserves his spotlight.   So your pic of the week is the Triumphant return of Godzilla!

*review* Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I often leave the theater disappointed and frustrated, films never seem to live up to their trailers, they go on far too long, lack impact, pander to a more cynical but simpleminded crowd and just generally end up hollow.  Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the first film in what seems like forever that has not only lived up to my expectations but exceeded them.

Dawn of Planet of the Apes wastes absolutely no time in establishing the setting and mood of the film as the opening credits serve as a visual simulation of the simian flu outbreak, showcasing in an incredibly powerful and frightening display how a single virus has brought humanity down to the endangered species list. What follows is a 2 hour spectacle that makes the sci-fi lover in me breathe a sigh of relief knowing that creativity and ingenuity are not dead there just waiting for the right artists to come along and remember them.

And remember them they do.  Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is probably the most visually stunning film of the year, and that’s me as a G-fan humbly taking the spotlight off of Legendary’s Godzilla.  The scenery is absolutely breathtaking; I personally loath Post Apocalyptic stories that take place in dull, endless wastelands of sand, snow or some other generic element.  Planet of the Apes however brings to life a living and vibrate world full of natural overgrowth that has overtaken mans old world and created something new. The real talent of Dawn of the planet of the Apes however lies in the apes themselves, I found myself over and over again forgetting that I was looking at CGI concoctions and not actual apes. The blending of ape and human on screen was practically seamless in both image and movement especially on the part of the incredibly talented Andy Serkis.

Serkis’s Performance as Caesar was a true joy to watch as he managed to create a real and relatable character with simply his body language and voice, which must one of the more difficult roles an actor can take on. The rest of the ape cast also did fantastic jobs, with a special mention Toby Kebbell for his talent in creating a truly villainous rival for Caesar in the human hating Koba.  However while the Apes were fantastic the humans were a bit of a mixed bag.   Most of the actors were fine enough but even leading man Jason Clarke as Malcolm and Gary Oldman as Dreyfus seemed to struggle with really getting a strong feel for their characters and not just come across as actors acting.

Though some of the acting may have been average it was hardly noticeable against the movie’s atmosphere and writing as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Captures much of the solemn and mature subject matter of the original film series. The film explores strong philosophical elements such as racism and coexistence as Caesar and Malcom desperately try and find a way to prevent war between their species. All this is enhanced by a phenomenal scenery and  a powerful musical score that all add to the chilling atmosphere of humanity’s last days as the dominate species.

Whether it’s the amazing score by Michael Giacchino, the haunting scenery of an abandoned city or a tragic tale of two cultures doomed to never fully find peace Dawn of the Plant of the Apes is an unforgettable experience and one that certainly should not be missed on the big screen.

Spoilerific insight

. I  can’t help but crack up at how Caesar is all well groomed and clean looking for an ape obviously representing his more heroic traits  but then on the flip side Koba is all scarred and looks like he has mange and a cleft lip because he’s the bad guy.

.Nice subtle touch marking the house Caesar grew up in as infected with the simian flue that way we have an actual answer to why James’s Franco’s character is no longer in the movies instead of having to assume things.

. I think my favorite shot of the whole film is when the apes arrive at the human settlement riding horses and armed with spears. As soon as the ride out of the jungle the expressions of humanity just reflect that the world has changed and will never be the way it was again.

.How did the apes know how to take the gun safety’s off so quickly?

. A monkey duel wielding machines guns on top of horse jumping through a wall of fire, I think that speaks for itself.

Comic Round Up for the week of 7/16/14

Heeyyyyy Kids! It’s comic round up day and we have all the party favors bad art, talking raccoons, child abducting celestial gods, and a green beast boy.  But before we get started I must warn all readers that someone has spiked the punch with some minor spoilers so drink at your own risk and if you want to purchase any of the comics you see here today feel free to swing by comoixology or your local comic shop and pick them up.

Oh! And one more announcement at the end of each roundup I will be picking a panel or page that I thought was the coolest or funniest or just most entertaining scene from this week’s batch of comics.   So now without further adieu let’s get this party started before Nick Fury gets any older.

Original Sin #6
5/5
Nick Fury reveals he’s looking for a replacement and he wants it to be one of those he summoned. So fury’s been taking out bad guys before they have a chance to do any real damage, not really seeing what everyone is all upset about seems like a job well done to me.  All things considered this has been an exciting run but I just want to know who shot the dang watcher and where on earth we are going with this crazy rollercoaster.

Original Sin Hulk vs. Ironman #02
2/5
Tony learns the truth of his responsibility in Banners accident. This is one of those tie-ins that within a year no one will even remember came out and end up having 12 copies in the 5 dollar graphic novel bins at Comic Con. basically if you’re not following this one as its published then it’s kind of pointless to read especially when it really doesn’t make sense that stark would not remember tampering with the gamma bomb.

Uncanny X-men #23
4/5
The x-men deal with the fall out of mystiques hijinks while She-hulk gathers them all togehter to hear the reading of Xavier’s will.  This is a hard one to rate as the story itself is very much a three as it’s just all aftermath and on its own it’s not anything special. On the other hand this issue is filled with a lot of nice independent moments for many characters, and the way the issue builds up the importance of Xavier’s will is well crafted.

Nova #19
3/5
Nova teams up with rocket and tracks down someone who has information about his father.  I’m not a fan of this new team on Nova.  The art for this book makes the heroes look all gangly and anorexic.  The story is pretty average and the dialogue is the same.   The book has unfortunately begun to lack some of the impact of its previous issues. Rocket is still entertaining but really isn’t much more then the gun toting violence lover that everyone has been writing him as lately.

Ms. Marvel #06
4/5
Ms. Marvel ventures into the sewers to find the tinker and finds an unexpected ally.  This cracks me up, it’s only the 6th issue and already we have her teaming up with other heroes, and to make it even better who wins the lucky super hero roulette wheel? Why are unfriendly back ally Wolverine! Didn’t, take long to shoe in that crossover. I guess it must be a rite of passage at marvel, “every new comic hero as to team up with wolverine this is undisputed marvel law. So speaks Stan Lee.” The writing is still fantastic but the art has taken a nose dive from previous issues I hope we go back to the original artist or at least shift this current one out as soon as possible.

Silver Surfer #04
4/5
Silver Surfer drops dawn off back at her home but something is not quite right.  This new run of Silver Surfer is hysterical and very creative. I’ve never seen the surfer treated in this fashion and I like it.  I love seeing the Silver Surfer former herald of the planet eater Galactus treated like just some guy.  I wasn’t sure how I felt about dawn in the beginning but her simple homey ways and unimpressed attitude have become very charming.  I also crack up because we have to shoehorn in the guardians for no real reason other than the fact they have a new movie coming.

She-Hulk #06
1/5
She-Hulk continues to try and track down the source of the mysterious blue file.   What is this crappy art day at the marvel offices? I’m will admit I’m not a renowned coinsurer of art but this is absolutely atrocious. She-hulk looks mannish or like she was chiseled out of rock and the rest of everything lacks such detail and finesse that it’s actually distracting me from the actual story not that the writing is much better. The story is also a mess as they just drop a major story issue like it was nothing and even make it more confusing through excessive dialogue.

X-Men #16
2/5
The X-Men rush to jubilees rescue.  It’s just not that interesting.  The only thing really keeping me on board with this new X-men run is jubilee. I like what we have done with her and like watching her growth as a character but everyone else just seems to stand around moaning about who’s going to be in charge.

Green Lantern New Guardians #33
3/5
Kyle Rayner and Carol Ferris journey further into the ship of horrors while the guardians learn the identity of their captors.  I have mixed feelings about this issue, while on one had it’s got nice atmosphere and the upgraded Psimons, while I hate to admit it,  are pretty cool but on the flip side the dialogue is rather droll and the Kyle/Ferris Relationship is still stupid. There are just a lot of new 52 pandering and propaganda in these comics and that makes it hard to enjoy.   I also don’t understand even with upgrades why the Psimons are overpowering the Guardians of the universe, you know the guys the Anti-Monitor is afraid of.

Supergirl #33
3/5
Supergirl battles with the world killer and attempts to commit the ultimate sacrifice in order to stop him. The issue has ups and downs. Kara has some great moments towards the end, where she has finally stopped angsting and embraced her more heroic side.  However most of the comic is standard beatemup affair with plenty of text boxes instead of actual dialogue.  I’m also sad to see the red ring go, that was the whole reason I started reading this in the first place so next issue will decide if I keep going or drop the title.

Harley Quinn Invades Comic Con #1
1/5
Exactly as the title says, there’s honestly nothing more to describe.  I get what they were trying to do here but it just falls flat on its face.  The issue makes no real sense and it’s so pandering and self serving that it comes across more obnoxious then adorable.  It’s also really hard to see Harley Quinn do anything cute when she’s running around in her stripper outfit not to mention D.C once again egregiously turning their females into nothing more than sex symbols.  If the issue was shorter I could see a little merit to maybe giving it a once over but at 48 pages it’s really not worth your time.

Robin Rises: Omega #1
2/5
Batman, Ra’s and Frankenstein battle the forces of Apokolips for the chaos shard.   I give up; I do not understand what is canon in the new 52 and what is not. So apparently everything is canon expect what’s not. It’s not that this story is necessarily terrible it’s just that it’s random and a touch pointless.  Is it really necessary for batman to go to war with Apokolips to get robin’s body back?  Why is Darkseid even involved in this plot line?  this really should have been just batman and Ra’s but since we cant we do anything in the new 52 without bringing the crappier version of the justice league into the picture, though with Lex Luthor and captain cold on the team I hardly think Justice is an appropriate term anymore.   Not to mention I’m a little surprised that regular arrows are enough to land mortal blows on parademons.

Teen Titans #01
3/5
The Teen Titans save a runaway bus that’s been hijacked by terrorists.   No lie that’s the entire issue,  Just a bus full of kids and a hint at some mysterious villain who I could care less about.  The series is already off to a rocky start with far too much exposition for expositions sake, we really don’t need the characters to express every single thought in their heads, sometimes less is more.  However I am most grateful that beast boy is finally green again, the whole red beast boy was dumb idea and never should have existed.

Life with Archie #36
3/5
Archie reflects on his life then gets shot and dies.  Ok I I’m going to be civil about this...*snicker*…wait, hold on. No seriously I’m a professional and I refuse to, bwhaahahahhahahahhahahhaahahhahahah wait, wait hold on I Bwahahahhahahahahahaha.  Alright, I’ve got that out of my now I promise. This idea is as ridicules as it sounds. Chock full of obvious foreshadowing and agenda pushing Life with Archie is everything I was expecting it to be, a cheap gimmick to boost sales.  I can’t help but notice that Archie gets shot protecting his gay friend who’s running for mayor from a killer who only targets gay people; I mean you might as well just come right out and announce your political leanings with marching band fanfare.  But the best scene is seeing the spilt malt shake as a representation of death, that had me tearing up in laughter.

And as promised here’s the new feature to the blog, Panel of the Week!

Archie is looking as Batman as he’s ever going to get. How could I not pick this one though I kind of cheated by putting up the malt shake as well.

Comic Round Up for the week of Wednesday 7/9/14

Hey there cowboy and cowgirls!  Wrangle your fillies, herd in your cattle and saddle up your stallions its comic round up time again!  And we've got a big haul this time around! For those of you just now joining my humble little blog a few things you need to know.

First: I use a highly sophisticated comic grading system that’s been passed down for eons by ancient monks in a small Tibetan village you've never heard of.  The grading system can be found below.

Second:  there are some spoilers in the descriptions so beware they bite

and finally Third:  if you’re interested in reading any of the titles below you can find them all at comixology or even better go support your local comic shop, even bearded geeks need to eat.

Super Advanced rating system from the misty mountains of Tibet

1. Worst thing you can read. Better used as bird cage lining

2.  It’s definitely bad there’s no denying that but it does have some memorable moments and if you’re a huge fan of the title character you might be able to stomach it.

3. Average story telling for an average story. If you like the title character you’ll probably have fun with this one.

4. Above average storytelling.   Absolutely worth a read, tends to be one of the better titles on the shelf.

5. Superior storytelling.  This is not only a worth read but pick up and manipulate your friends to picking it up as well. If only all comics could be this good.

Green Lantern Corps #33
3/5
An unexpected ally reveals themselves as an undercover Durlan and absorbs the sea of flames to become all powerful.  So this last tag on to the Durlan war was simply idiotic and pointless.  There was zero need have a “one last scare” segment and especially when it turned out it was an “I was a Skrull this whole time!” moment.  However, if you trooped through the new Green Lantern story you might as well just finish it up with this final act.  Of course our Durlan imposter isn't the only baddie to make an appearance, a new set of villains for our beloved emerald guardians have appeared called, wait for it….. The Shadow Empire! Baum Baum Baum!  I bet the heads of D.C were really working overtime to come up with that one especially since its leader looks like some kind of space troglodyte. Well, I’m nothing if not open minded so I’ll allow them to prove to me this thing is as silly as it looks.

Detective Comics #33
1/5
Bullock and Batman continue to hunt down the source of the new drug Icraus.  Wait, who are these people again? And why are the word balloons big enough to fill a page yet relay little to no interesting or informative information? Why is Bullock so Jelly of Batman? And why is Batman kind of jerks to Gotham’s finest?  These are the mysteries Detective Comics really needs to solve instead of bland mafia villains and human combustion drugs.

Batgirl #33
3/5
Batgirl, Huntress and Black Canary launch their first strike against Knightfall.   The Issue itself wasn't too bad it’s just the same New 52 irritants that make the issue more annoying than it should have been.  Batgirl is still well written in the character department, even if I would prefer someone other than Barbra; however Huntress is a little confusing since she’s being awfully compliant and helpful instead of her headstrong punisher esc personality I’m familiar with.  The story of batgirl so far is so-so as its really the characters the drive the issue.

Constantine #16
4/5
Constantine enters enchanted woodland to locate a mystic that can help him remove a spell placed on him.   Alright, I admit I picked the issue up simply because the cover looked so dang cool, but this was surprisingly better than I thought it would be.  Seeing Constantine struggle between being a better man and the jerk he is was a rather fun story element and far more mature then I gave D.C credit for.  The issue was also very newcomer friendly with simple explanations to everything that was happening in the issue a simple game of connect the dots and I managed to piece together everything I wanted to know.  Also werewolves….actually I think that’s the only reason you need to read this issue.

Grayson #01
2/5
Dick Grayson is now working for a secret organization called spiral.   All I can do is shrug my shoulders at this one.  I mean if you ever secretly wished to see Nightwing work for Charlie's Angels then this is the book for you otherwise I really wouldn't bother since it’s kind of pointless and leaves a lot to be explained for an issue one. I’ll keep on for the next two issues and let you folks know if it gets any better.

New suicide squad #01
4/5
Waller is demoted and control of the suicide squad ends up in new management.  This was an easy fun read even if it’s cliche as all get out.  Slick young know-it-all takes over but doesn't understand or respect the seriousness of his position and things go wrong.  I should take a point away just for the inclusion of the Jokers daughter, probably the stupidest new villain yet, but the story was fun enough that I’ll let that slide.

Superman/WonderWoman #10
1/5
Continuing the glorious adventures of super doom, dang now they got me saying it, as he battles aliens and the Cyborg superman. Oh and Lois is Brainiac.  Any of you faithful readers are quite familiar with my opinion of the superman: doomed arc so I don’t think it’s necessary to delve any further…. but I’m going to anyway. Whoever pushed this half baked, fourth grade crap into the public eye needs to be shot, ok maybe not shot but a stern talking to would suffice.

Deadpool #31
3/5
Deadpool Continues his crusade against the vampireic horde while agent Preston locates Deadpool’s lost daughter.  It’s certainly a better issue then some of the previous entries but still kind of “so what?”  If we keep on this direction it could improve the book but we still would need to work on Deadpools quips since there often not as funny as they should be.  The action needs a bit of work, Agent Preston’s fight was pretty cool but Deadpool didn't seem to do much of anything.

Fantastic Four #07
4/5
The Thing confronts the Human Torch about his part in running his chances at being human again.  The lead up was soo good then the bottom dropped out with it just being a onetime incident that Johnny screwed up by being Johnny, but apparently this is enough for Ben Grimm to throw a massive temper tantrum. He even admits he’s overreacting later which I just have to nod in agreement and say “yeah, you are. Now suck it up and be a be a man.”  They didn't even lie to him they just didn't follow up with him after he stormed out like a baby.  If it wasn't for Grimm  being so out of character It would have been a solid issue with some good story elements. In all honesty it probably would have been even better if it had been revealed that they purposely didn't turn him back so he could keep on fighting as the thing or something like that.

Original Sin: Thor and Loki #1
5/5
Thor Confronts his mother about his long lost sister then teams up with Loki to find the entrance to the 10th realm.  Asgard has all the best secrets. I love how we turned something as simple as a long lost sister into a missing realm and the cosmic consequences of learning this dark secret.  Plus I like having both Loki’s so I can get evil Loki and good Loki all in the same comic.

All New Invaders #07
4/5
The original torch continues his debrief of the incident with super radiant friend.   It was a bit heavy on the exposition but it wasn't uncomfortable and the story flowed rather well.  I still really like super Radiant Friend and wouldn't mind seeing more of her as she had a fun charm to her.  Also the “to be continued” moment was interesting enough that I might pick of the next issue as well.

Original Sins #03
1/5
Strips include the Inhuman, Young Avengers and a short Spider-man strip.  Same old commercial material that’s really not worth wasting any of your time on, in fact the time it would take to read this issue you could start planting a garden,  read a better comic, write in a blog ect.. The possibilities are endless.

Avengers #32
3/5
Cap and crew travel even farther into the future and meet up with adult Franklin Richards.  Very moody and rather existential but still kind of interesting, however its really only meant for people who not only have been following the new avengers run since the beginning but also have been following this whole Multiverse incursion problem from birth.  If your just coming in I suggest avoiding this comic as it really won’t hold any special meaning for you. Though knowing the Black Widow encouraged the Richards son to make weapons out off his crayons and jump rope brings a smile to my face.

Spiderman 2099 #01
5/5
Spiderman 2099 is stuck in the present but a temporal assassin is also sent back to make sure he is wiped from the time line.  This was a lot of fun, lots of interesting elements and fun dialogue. The idea of a temporal assassin sent from an even farther future to clean up the mess 2099 is making is really interesting and I look forward to more.

Captain Marvel #05
2/5
Captain Marvel discovers that J-son is mining vibrainum on the planet and making the inhabitants sick.  Boooring, well it’s less boring then the last issue but still incredibly droll.  I mean seeing Starlords dad J-son being all power hungry and evil is fine and good but the plot of these displaced natives is hardly attention grabbing and when you realize  we are never going to see these characters again so were putting all this emphasis  on pointless characters it’s just too much. Consider this title officially dropped!

Captain Marvel DROPPED!

All New X-Men #29
4/5
The X-Men’s final fight against the evil X-Men team from the future.  I like that Xavier’s kid is a psycho and has been mind controlling future x-men to kill the x-men of the past because he just hates the x-men that much.  I love All New X-men and even when they do weird things like trying to start relationships between X-23 and several members of the original X-Men It’s still the best X title out there.

Amazing X-Men #09
4/5
The curse of the Wendigo has spread like wildfire and it’s all the x-men can do to just contain it.   Ok picture the hulk, got him?  Good. Now multiply him by a thousand and make him a savage cannibal that can infect anyone he touches and make them another savage cannibal hulk. Yeah, once you change your soiled undergarments I can tell you that is what the writers just threw at a newly formed x-men team and a depowered wolverine.  This should be a ton of fun.

Nightcrawler #04
3/5
Nightcrawler finds out that his adopted mother Margalie is responsible for the Trimegas and sets out to stop her.  If you’re a Nightcrawler fan, like yours truly, then this book is great however aside from that there’s nothing particularly special about this issue and no real reason to pick it up.  but as a dutiful Nightcrawler fan I must insist that everyone reading this blog go out and by 30 issues, so Nightcrawler can become the most popular x-men … oh I see how it is you must be a wolverine fan…. well Wolverine is pretty cool.

Wolverine #10
4/5
Wolverine has found new purpose in his life and is ready to lead an army of friends to stop Sabertooth once and for all. It’s kind of nice, if not really, really, weird, to see wolverine having grown up and admit to his mistakes, not to mention that despite being a rough and tumble Canadian berserker he’s still managed to make an impression on a lot of people and they’re willing to lay it all on the line to help their friend.

Avengers undercover
3/5

Nico is learning how to control her new powers when she learns chase has been seriously hurt on a mission.  It’s still a fun entertaining comic even if it’s a little directionless. The comic really doesn't know where it wants to go or what it wants to do so it just kind of hobbles along. I also had to roll my eyes when they made the reveal at the end of the comic I should have known marvel didn't have the stones to actually kill off a major villain.
